CATA – Farmworkers’ Support Committee Statement on the 2024 Presidential Election

We know that the work is going to be harder for the next few years. It’s going to require an unfair amount of energy and resilience, but we cannot let hopelessness and frustration tire us out, we can’t give up. We cannot continue to let politicians manipulate people’s frustration with their economic situation into a hatred of ANY community.

Racist rhetoric towards immigrants from presidents and people in power is nothing new. Placing blame for all of the country’s problems on the immigrant community is nothing new. Promoting a baseless fear of anything “Un-American” is nothing new. During this country’s history, it’s been directed at Italian immigrants, Irish immigrants, Japanese immigrants, Muslim immigrants, and Latino immigrants just to name a few. Many people have ancestors and family who have lived through an attack on them by this country simply because they were not born here. We cannot let history continue to repeat itself.

CATA’s mission is still the same and our work will continue to push us forward, towards the future we want for the next generation, towards a better country that we know we can be. We will continue to denounce any divisive and harmful rhetoric because we know that all individuals, regardless of background, are to be valued and respected.

CATA will always support and defend the immigrant community and continue to work toward a future where everyone is celebrated for their contributions to our country. El Pueblo Unido Jamas Sera Vencido, as a united people, we will not be defeated.
