Reclaim: We’re Getting Worried about the Race for DA (Updated with Debate Recording)

Updated with recording of WHYY/Committee of Seventy Candidate Debate: https://www.facebook.com/whyypublicmedia/videos/1350668582821158

From Reclaim:
We’re getting worried about the race for District Attorney. (Voting in the Philly primary on May 20.)

Krasner’s conservative opponent Dugan has released a television ad this week, the first for either candidate of this campaign. Tv ads are expensive, and Krasner has been outfundraised by Dugan this cycle.

The majority of Dugan’s money comes from large PACs from the political arms of Wawa and the more conservative unions that backed Cherelle Parker for mayor and building an arena in Chinatown against the will of the people. Krasner on the other hand has most of his money coming from small-donor contributions. A quarter of Krasner’s money comes from donors contributing $250 or less, while Dugan has less than 5% from those types of donors.

We’re comforted by initial polling that projects our endorsed candidate Krasner winning by 37 points in a landslideBut we know that polls don’t vote – people do. Municipal primaries like this year tend to have low voter turnout. And while we are confident the majority of Philadelphia voters wont be fooled by the choices, we’re worried that many don’t even know there’s an election coming up.

About this event

Philly is safer and freer since DA Larry Krasner has taken office. Help us take on crime, the prison industrial complex, and government overreach by canvassing with us this weekend!

For anyone who missed our previous canvasses, this is an opportunity to pick up some materials, go over best practices, and assign turf to get out the word about voting to re-elect Larry Krasner as DA. There will be coffee, bagels, and wonderful people. Come on out!

We’ll start our first training session at 10am so we’d love to see you then, but please feel free to stop by at your convenience if you can’t make that exact time. We’re using this time to knock on doors to activate registered voters, talk to folks on the street to register new ones, and answer questions to help our neighbors better understand the issues at play in this election. Come when you can – we’ll be running trainings until 4pm.

If you can’t come but still want to help out, here are a few links to get involved:
