DC33 IS ON STRIKE! Our neighbors and Philly city workers at District Council 33 are on strike. These 9,000+ workers keep our city running: they collect our trash, staff our libraries and rec centers, and keep our facilities clean. Mayor Parker refuses to budget them a living wage. Join us in supporting DC33 by taking the action items below.- Sign up to offer strike assistance. Join the picket, offer childcare to strikers, donate supplies, etc.- Reach out to Mayor Parker’s office and demand the city pay up. Find contact information here.– Keep up with strike activity on social media.Solidarity with our striking neighbors! ![]() Trump and his cronies have built a government to serve oligarchs. They have sold our future for profit, using hate and othering to divide the public. But while they are jacking up our rent and groceries, we are organizing the end of their reign. Just as previous generations rose up to free enslaved people, grant women the vote, and win Civil Rights, we will unite across race, class, and age to end the reign of these billionaires. Join us on Sunday, July 20 at 5 pm where we’ll discuss how we got here, what people have done in the past to tear down authoritarianism, and how building a mass movement in this moment is critical. See you there! Reply to this email with any questions. ———– ![]() As of July 1, our city workers from AFSCME DC33 have been on strike. As AFSCME DC33 continues to strike, the Alliance for a Just Philadelphia stands with the workers who are fighting for what they deserve – fair pay, dignified sick policies, and adequate healthcare. DC33 MAKES OUR CITY RUN! Thousands of DC33 members take out our trash, keep our libraries and rec centers running, answer 911 calls, clean our streets, and help our children cross the street. The average DC33 worker makes only $46,000 a year, while the cost of living in Philadelphia continues to go up and up. We know the Mayor is aware of the cost of living – that’s why she gave herself and her top aides lofty raises last year. She now makes over five times the average DC33 member. When Mayor Parker claims ‘fiscal responsibility,’ what she really means is money for billionaires, developers, and corporations – not for working class Philadelphians! Mayor Parker says there’s no money for DC33 workers – but the wealth to fund fair wages exists. Just weeks ago, the Mayor and the VAST majority of City Council voted for massive tax giveaways to corporations and billionaires. These tax giveaways for companies like Comcast and Aramark total a low-end estimate of half a BILLION dollars over the next 13 years – taxpayer money that should have and could have been used to fully fund our public services and pay DC33 members fair wages. The Alliance for a Just Philadelphia stands with AFSCME DC33 in the fight for dignified, family sustaining jobs. ![]() Pictured: OnePA members stand in solidarity with DC33 workers at the Blackwell Library picket line in West Philadelphia!
