There is no doubt that this is going to be a HOT labor summer in Philly.
Philly FUN stands in solidarity with striking municipal DC33 workers because we know how much public services matter, and that the workers who make them run deserve a living wage and family-supporting benefits.
That’s just as true for local public sector workers as it is for fed workers.
This month, Philly FUN is partnering with Fight Against Fascism for a series of gratitude rallies at the VA Hospital in West Philly. Join us from 4-6pm on July 10, 16, and 24 to show love and appreciation for the veterans who served — and the VA workers who serve them every day.
- What: We love our VA rallies (RSVP here)
- When: July 10, 16, and 24; 4-6pm
- Where: Woodland Ave & Baltimore Ave, Philadelphia
- Why you should be there: It’ll be a welcoming, uplifting, family-friendly atmosphere, with community members and veterans standing together to share messages of support and gratitude. Bring your music, signs, and solidarity!
At the federal level, the fight for dignified working conditions and basic labor protections continues. Thanks to AFGE’s hard work, the Senate dropped all anti-worker provisions AFGE opposed in its final version of the Big Retaliation Bill released June 27. But the fight is not over as the Senate is still considering amendments to the bill.
And over at the Social Security Administration, workers are organizing to oppose the sudden removal of flexible work schedules. SSA recently stripped teleservice center workers of their long-held flexible work schedule benefits, for no apparent reason, in the middle of a pay period, with no warning. This senseless action threw personal lives and family situations into chaos with no time to react. Sign this petition to tell SSA political appointees that workers deserve better!
We promise to keep you updated on federal worker organizing and provide ways to plug in over the coming weeks and months. Solidarity matters more now than ever!
