From Ceasefire PA:
Last spring, a man walked into a Delaware County Walmart. In his bag was a gun with a “Switch” converting his weapon into a machine gun. The toll could have been atrocious if police hadn’t stopped him.1
Now Delaware County is on the verge of banning these switches and untraceable ghost guns, giving local law enforcement another tool to stop their proliferation. The first hearing is Wednesday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Delaware County Courthouse (201 W. Front St. Media, PA 19063). Can you join me?
Here’s what we’re talking about:
- Ghost gun kits can be quickly assembled into firearms with basic tools and little knowledge. It’s become a business with people then turning around and selling the fully made guns later. But because the initial access is untraceable they’ve become a gun of choice for many criminals, with recoveries climbing 4,600% between 2018- 2022 in Philadelphia.
- Glock switches, and other pieces that convert a firearm into automatic fire weapon like a bump stock, have been used at shootings at Marple Walmart and a SEPTA bus stop.
We’re still working to pass these laws statewide–and defend the federal protections that President Trump has promised to tear up. But, giving law enforcement extra tools to keep Delaware County residents safe will save lives. Join us to back Delaware County leaders this Wednesday as it becomes the first county in PA to ban ghost guns and machine gun converters.
