The Pennsylvania Chapter is making membership growth and volunteer leadership a priority for the next few years. In November, 2024, the PA Chapter ExCom adopted Five Strategic Imperatives, three  of which are related to membership growth, expanding volunteer leadership and and providing volunteers with the resources they need to be successful :

• Increase number of volunteers in leadership positions by 20% by 2027
• Grow membership to 30,000 by 2030
• Attain a pro-environment majority in both legislative chambers by 2026
• Cut in-state climate pollution by 30% by 2030 and 100% by 2050
• Increase financial and technical support to local Groups and Teams while maintaining a healthy financial reserve

We start by investing in our ten all-volunteer local Groups by providing the resources they need to engage with local officials, allied organizations and all community members that are interested in preserving and protecting the open spaces, clean air and water and an equitable transition to a clean energy economy.

Getting Sierra Club branding attached to positive-environmental legislation, projects and educational events will expand the awareness that Sierra Club is working in Pennsylvania and inspire more people to become Sierra Club members.

The Volunteer Open House gives new (and not so new) volunteers an overview of the work our volunteers and staff are doing in Pennsylvania and a path for connecting with Groups and Teams that align with their interests.
