Protest actions rarely go exactly as planned. How do we respond from a grounded place when our crowds are larger than planned or something unexpected happens? In this experiential training in street skills for crowds, we’ll sink our teeth into a variety of scenario examples and explore how to navigate complex situations, including marshal skills beyond one on one de-escalation, managing large groups in emergent street scenarios, and shifting risk assessments. Develop your ability to assess, reflect, and make informed decisions in real-time, building resilience and skill in seeing the people around you as a resource. This training will be led by trainers from Earth Quaker Action Team, Jewish Voice for Peace Philadelphia, and New Town Friends Meeting and is hosted by Central Philadelphia Friends Meeting. Participants will leave with skills to marshal for a variety of marches and actions.

As covid levels are generally low in the Philadelphia region, we encourage you to wear a mask during the training or take a covid test beforehand. Masks and tests will be available, and we will run an air filter in the space. All entrances and exits to the Friends Center have ramps, and all bathrooms are up to ADA standards. Most bathrooms are gendered, but gender neutral options are available. Parking can be somewhat difficult in the area, but the Friends Center is close to many public transportation options, including a 4 minute walk from 15th St/City Hall Station and a 5 minute walk from Suburban Station. Please reach out at info@eqat.org with other questions or requests about access needs, and we’ll see if we are able to accommodate.

Let us know if there is a financial barrier to participating, such as transportation, childcare, or lost wages. We have funds available.

Please email richie@eqat.org for more information and to share what would support you to attend.
