Since taking office in January, President Trump and his administration have launched an unprecedented attack on American science and higher education. Recent federal policies have placed increased scrutiny and pressure on colleges and universities, research funding, and academic freedom. From restrictions on international researchers and changes to visa programs, to proposed cuts in science and public health funding, and efforts to discredit academic institutions, we know that the impacts on Greater Philadelphia’s higher education, healthcare, and innovation economy are significant.
We are inviting several federal and state representatives of the Greater Philadelphia region to come meet with their constituents and discuss how they can help protect scientific integrity, defend higher education, and ensure that Philadelphia and Pennsylvania remain national leaders in research, innovation, and public trust in science.
Our region is home to world-class research institutions and a vibrant scientific community that thrives on strong public investment and a healthy partnership between academia and government. This town hall will offer a vital opportunity for open and productive dialog
